AMERICAN SURVEYING & ENGINEERING

American Surveying & Engineering, P.C. (ASE) is a multi-disciplined firm
providing specialty services to a broad range of clientele, including Federal, State, County and City Governmental Agencies;
the Illinois Tollway,  A/E Firms, Contractors, Utility Companies, and Commercial Developers.

3D LiDAR Scanning

Our premiere service is Mobile and Terrestrial LiDAR scanning. ASE owns and operates a 3D Mobile LiDAR Scan Van and Terrestrial 3D LiDAR scanners. LiDAR scanning allows us to dramatically cut the time and expense of mapping, topographic and as-built surveys. We have used scanning on many projects in order to collect accurate data in a fraction of the time that would have been needed for conventional methods. The addition of Mobile LiDAR allows us to collect design-grade data at highway speeds, reducing our field time while maintaining the high-quality deliverables that Clients expect.

What is LiDAR?

Lidar is a surveying method that measures distance to a target by illuminating that target with a pulsed laser light, and measuring the reflected pulses with a sensor. Differences in laser return times and wavelengths can then be used to make digital 3D-representations of the target.

Benefits of LiDAR

Data can be collected quickly and with a very high level of accuracy, Surface data has a high sample density which will improve results, LiDAR does not have any geometric distortions and can be integrated with other data sources.

American Surveying & Engineering, P.C. (ASE) is a full services A/E firm that offers
a variety of services. ASE, which was established in 1978 as American Surveying Consultants, has its
corporate office in Chicago and branch offices in Aurora and Dixon in Illinois, and Ames, Iowa. ASE employs Professional Land Surveyors
and Professional Engineers, who are supported by Environmental experts, GISPs, Appraisers, Negotiators, Professional Office Support and experienced Field Crews.

MOBILE LiDAR SURVEY OF I-55 FROM WEBER ROAD TO WILLOW SPRINGS ROAD

Phase III Survey Support as Subconsultant for Illinois Department of Transportation Project
As a subconsultant to Wight, ASE provided verification of horizontal & vertical control, and an initial survey of existing conditions prior to construction of entire corridor using Mobile LiDAR.  After construction is finished ASE will perform a Mobile LiDAR Survey of the As-Built roadway through the entire corridor.  Deliverables from Scan Van surveys were/will be a fully registered non-classified point cloud delivered at first in .PTS files then .LAS files and spherical imagery files for use in TopoDOT.

DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF RECREATIONAL CAMPS - CAMP SULLIVAN

Forest Preserve District of Cook County
ASE provided professional civil engineering design services for the Forest Preserve District of Cook County (FPDCC).   The Architect of record, Domokur Architects, teamed with ASE to plan and oversee the construction of new Campground facilities at six different locations throughout the county.

The Camp Sullivan Development consisted of three projects in one.  A large recreational area was surrounded by paths, fire pits, and group camp buildings as well as new one and two bedroom cabins.  A family cap area was developed in the wooden areas with campsites and ADA accessible trails and shower and rest room facilities.  The third component was the re-development of the iconic Camp Sullivan Barn.  Once dilapidated and failing, the Barn was re-built to accommodate social gatherings and includes a new climbing wall for enthusiasts.  ASE designed new parking accommodations, sidewalks, utility, and drainage improvements to support the redeveloped structure.

ASE embraces cutting edge technology, allowing us to deliver high-quality data that satisfies the needs of clients working on complex transportation or utility corridors in an efficient and cost-saving manner. ASE owns and operates a Mobile LiDAR unit, which allows us to obtain design-grade survey data at highway speeds. Another highlight is the Research Vessel Abe Lincoln, a state of the art bathymetric surveying vessel equipped with Single and Multi-Beam Echosounding and Side Scan Sonar. Our commitment to utility locating led us to offering all levels of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE). We can provide the SUE Level B locating when necessary, and when a designer needs a utility exposed (SUE Level A) for his or her set of plans, we can do that with either our Airvac or Hydrovac trucks. These are just a few examples of ASE’s commitment to innovative technology.
Over the years, ASE has evolved into a broader service engineering firm that offers hydraulic analysis and design, roadway engineering, land acquisition services, civil site design, environmental documentation, studies and regulatory permitting, construction inspection, and utility location and investigations.
